Teaching Statement
I think it's important for the teacher to adapt to the student's needs. Everyone has different goals, and everyone learns at a different pace. A teacher's most important job is to keep the student interested, and curious in what he is doing. I like to focus on what the student wants to learn, whether it's funk, jazz, improvisation, rock, folk, punk, etc. That being said, I do like to devote part of the lesson to technique, because without it, it will be hard to play any style.
So most lessons are divided into two sections: Technique, and personal interest.
I do like to give listening homework which is optional.

Biography
Hello dear and all students,
My name is Matt Rousseau, I have been playing bass professionally for over a decade now, and have taught lessons throughout most of that time. I studied at Vanier College, and then went to the New School For Jazz and Contemporary music in New York City. There I studied with some of New Yorks most prominent musicians including Mark Guiliana (drummer), and Michael League (of Snarky Puppy). Now I freelance for multiple bands, and have toured all over North America. I have gotten a lot of help from teachers and friends along the way, and I find it very important to give that help back to the community. For people who are serious about following a career in music, and are looking to get into schools, I have been through the CEGEP and University audition process and know exactly what they are looking for. For people who are seeking to learn an instrument for fun, I can't imagine anything more fun and I would love to help you get started.
I look forward to meeting you.
Matt
