Teaching Statement
I believe in the importance of patience and encouragement when teaching new musicians, and letting the student make goals for themselves to practice self motivation and inspiration. My focus is equally divided between technique and musical and personal expression through music.

Biography
Emily is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in violin performance and visual art at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver Canada and is often concertmaster of the UBC Symphony Orchestra. She studies with Jasper Wood at UBC. Emily recently made her solo debut with the Bozeman Symphony and the Billings Symphony in Montana playing the Barber violin concerto. She spent the last two summers studying with Naoko Tanaka at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado and playing in four out of the five orchestras there. The two summers before that she attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and was an Emerson Scholar at Interlochen Summer Arts. Emily was born and raised in Bozeman Montana where she began playing violin at the age of three. She studied with Carrie Krause throughout high school, and was concertmaster for the Bozeman High School Symphony for three years. She enjoyed being a member of the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra and received the Outstanding High School Performer award from the Bozeman Symphony in 2013. Emily has toured China and Europe with the Montana State University cello ensemble in 2006 and 2013 respectively, and toured Southeast Asia with the MSU Symphony in 2009. In addition to her growing love for music, Emily is passionate about psychology and art.
