Teaching Statement
My teaching style is usually catered to the desired and goals of the student. It's impossible to learn everything at once so I believe in focusing on what the student is interested and what is going to make them feel progress. In my experience the first year is the most difficult hurdle and if I can make learning fun and interesting in that period there is a much higher likelihood the student will continue to play for the long term.
I don't care if you want to learn Punk, Jazz or Neo-death-super-metal, I will do my best to teach what is going to be fun for you.
Education
Vanier College - 2010 - 2012 - Jazz Performance
Concordia University - 2012 - 2015 - Composition (Incomplete by 10 credits)
Biography
I have been playing guitar for 12 years. My notable influences are Hendrix, Nirvana, David Bowie, CAKE, Modest Mouse, Joe Pass, Bill Evans, Tom Waits and Frank Zappa. At age 20 I studied music at Vanier to learn Jazz. At 22 I studied at Concordia to learn composition. I have played in many garage rock bands and generally look for any opportunity to jam with my musician friends. Music has been one of the most positive forces in my life, teaching me discipline and giving me direction. Being able to help pass the love of music to other people is the most satisfying work I can think of.
Studio Policies
Do not touch my instruments/equiptment unless you first ask permission.
Please keep the papers I give you collected in some sort of duotang or binder.
Although this isn't a rule, my advice on a students first guitar is that it should not be a cheap one from Costco or Walmart. These instruments are usually so poorly built and set up that even I cannot coax a good sound out of them. So someone who is just beginning to learn usually stands no chance when using one of these. I will not turn students away for having one but I do strongly advise at least looking for a decent guitar used on kijiji of Craigslist before resorting to an inferior alternative.
