Teaching Statement
In his capacities as both a highly experienced teacher and examiner, Chris is well qualified to prepare students for both piano and theory examinations. Chris' teaching philosophy reflects a desire to expose students to many different musical styles while respecting their individual needs and interests. The goal is to provide students with a solid foundation and the tools to effectively pursue their musical interests, whatever they may be.

MA in musicology and ethnomusicology from York University
Mus Bac in music education from the University of Toronto
ARCT in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music
Biography
A lifelong Torontonian, Chris studied piano with Sadie Squires, Gordon Hallett, William Aide and Andrew Markow, as well as composition with Samuel Dolin. In addition to working in his private teaching studio, Chris is a longtime member of the piano and theory faculties of the Royal Conservatory of Music, as well as a senior examiner in piano and theoretical subjects for RCM Examinations. As a outgrowth of his interest in and respect for other musical traditions, he also studied tabla for a time with Pandit Sharda Sahai from Varanasi, India. He has 37 years of teaching experience. He is also a tai chi instructor.
