Education
Max has studied extensively with Quincy Davis (Tom Harrell, Wynton Marsalis, Peter Berstein, Kurt Elling, Roy Hargrove...) and Curtis Nowosad (Philip Harper, Donny McCaslin, Stefon Harris, Miguel Zenón, Steve Wilson, Kenny Barron...). He is currently enrolled in the Jazz Studies program at the University of Manitoba where he is studying under Steve & Anna-Lisa Kirby, Larry Roy, Derrick Gardner, Will Bonness, Jon Gordon, and Quincy Davis; world-class, master musicians who have many years of experience playing with a long list of legendary musicians such as Elvin Jones and The Count Basie Orchestra.
Biography
Max teaches drums and has an extensive knowledge of musical styles. As well as being fluent in the language of rhythm, Max has an understanding of harmony and melody that is rare among drummers. As a student pursuing his Bachelor of Jazz Studies at the University of Manitoba, Max understands first-hand the students' perspective and is effective at delivering information in an efficient and easily understandable manner. He recognizes that everyone will have different goals, and is very adaptable to the wants and needs of individual students while instilling in them a strong foundation and providing them the necessary skills to pursue any musical path.
Max is active in Winnipeg's music scene and has performed at venues such as the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Human Rights Museum, the Rady Centre, the West End Cultural Centre, Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain, the Convention Centre, Mona Lisa Ristorante, Maw's Eatery and Bar, The Hub, The Orbit Room, The Park Theatre, and more. His primary influences include Philly Joe Jones, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Gregory Hutchinson, Brian Blade, Bill Stewart, Steve Gadd, Tony Royster Jr., and Mark Guiliana.
Max has the skills required to teach any genre of music while providing a fun, comfortable environment in which students can flourish.
